I was super excited to find my new handmade Victor Tella Signal Whip in the post yesterday. This is 3 foot of pure joy and beauty, black leather with little green highlights. I’ve been waiting so long for this little guy, and I am not a patient person. Ever since the magnificent DK Leather and Lu LeatherEagle showed me how to use one (and demonstrated how easily it can cut my flesh) at a workshop back in March. Finally he is here, and he is a little demon.
We are still getting to know each other, my whip and I, it’s only been a day, and a new whip needs to be broken in. Right now the leather is all hard, it takes a lot of time, energy and love to make the beautiful dancing snake shapes you see when people play. And any skill I’ve gathered over the years practising with other people’s whips, with nylon whips, with floggers is completely and utterly lost on this one. My aim is all over the place right now and he feels all stiff and foreign. But we will come to love each other I am sure of that. After endless hours practising hitting just one spot until my accuracy is perfect, we will be inseparable.
It’s all well and good me standing in my room hitting pieces of paper dangling from the roof, but at some point I am going to need flesh to practice on, so step on up if you’re brave enough…
